From strategy to practice: how Gem is steered
Over the past period the Gem community has once again taken firm steps in developing Gem into a scalable municipal facility. In the collaboration between municipalities, the steering team and the tech team, targeted work is being done on further professionalising roles, tasks and cooperation. At the same time, important technical milestones have been reached: Gem is now ready for the government cloud. All services have been ‘containerised’ and the software has been made HAVEN-compliant. Gem is already running in a test cluster in the Common Ground environment at Logius. This gives us a solid basis for further scaling up and for deploying language models for Gem.

The role of the steering team
The steering team plays a central role in this development. Where the steering committee sets the direction, the steering team makes sure the delivery hangs together and that day-to-day practice is well organised. The team supports the community, maintains relationships with partners such as the VNG, ICTU and BZK, and connects Gem with wider developments such as Common Ground. In this way the steering team forms the link between vision and delivery.
In the second quarter the focus is on getting Gem 1.0 ready for a production environment at ICTU and on working out the service agreements in more detail.
Signing ceremony for Gem and the Quarterly Update
Thursday 16 April marks an important moment for Gem. On that day the formal signing ceremony between the VNG and the Gem front-runner municipalities takes place at ICTU: an important milestone for further growth.
The Gem Kwartaalupdate then takes place that afternoon at ICTU in The Hague, where the Gem steering team will also give presentations and share knowledge. It marks the next step in the development of Gem.
